Show Description:
Located in the charming and historic San Telmo, the El Viejo Almacen Tango Show provides an entertaining evening which starts in the large, modern restaurant, and continues in the historical Tango Theater. The name of "El Viejo Almacen" has been heard around the world as representing the most Traditional Tango House in Buenos Aires. In this house, the first British Hospital in Buenos Aires was established in 1844 and used "ether" for its surgeries. Later on, it became a hiding place for thieves, later a brothel, and later a "conventillo" (multi-family housing of the 19th century), with a bar on the corner which later became a General Store serving neighbors and sailors before boarding ships. After a time, it became a Russian Restaurant, but in 1969 it was reborn again as a Tango House. Over the years, the property has faced downsizing, but remains a vital part of San Telmo's cultural heritage, as well as that of Buenos Aires. The "portenan" music played in this house maintains all of the history of a romantic era, with its musicians dueling over the betrayals and tears of the Tango.
